My best friend, Tim Gruensfelder, has been involved with GLASA for six years. I have known Tim since the age of four and we have been friends ever since. Tim and I went to school together all through 8th grade and still remain close friends today.

Tim was diagnosed with a rare cancer at the age of four that has no known cure. Tim would have to undergo many treatments including: chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgical procedures, and many more. I have been at Tim's side to help him through this difficult journey for the past 14 years. This not only affected Tim's life, but mine as well.

Up until Tim was ten years old, he was able bodied and played numerous sports. Unfortunately at this stage in his life, he was bound to a wheelchair due to tumors on his spine, and the surgeries to remove the tumors. He was unable to participate in the sports that were enjoyable to him.

Two years later, his mother found GLASA. Tim reluctantly went to try wheelchair basketball; however, he loved his first practice and continued to play basketball and even try new sports.

Through his journey with GLASA, Tim learned a lot about his disabilty, and how to go about life with this new challenge. He became comfortable with his disabiltiy and not ashamed. Without the help of GLASA, Tim would not be able to participate in the activities and opportunities that GLASA provides.
